CHILDREN’S CHOIR CONTEST

KAPONGA FLOWER SHOW

JUDGE’S CONGRATULATIONS

The evening session of the Kaponga Metljodist flower show on Friday evening last was exceptionally well attended. The children’s choir competition was special attraction. The judge, Mr Harold Ackroyd, of Hawera, expressed pleasure at the quality of the work of the competing choirs. Five choirs competed in the following order: River-lea, Kaponga State, Okaiawa,. Kaponga Convent and Kaponga Methodist. The competition was won by Kaponga Methodist with 83 points "and Kaponga State was second with 80 points. The .judge said the winning choir had a nice tonal quality, smooth ringing and good note value. He also congratulated the runners-up on their very meritori-ous performance and .complimented - the other teams upon some very fine work.

The winning choir wais trained by the Rev. Air Nelson, the piano work being carried out bv Airs Nelson and Mrs R, G. Cook. Miss Guppy trained the State school choir and played for it as- well. The combined chojrs, under the baton of Mr W. Nelson, sang “All in a Garden Fair,” Airs R, G. Cook being the accompanist. Regarding the show itself it is understood that the entries this year are a. record, totalline- 700. Last year’s show held the best previous record of 525 entries. The show was a record in every way and the smooth working was a credit to the capable secretary. Mr W. Nelson. It is anticipated that something over £3O will be available when all expenses have been met.
