HOKITIKA STREETS INVADED. MANY SLIPS ON ROADS. 'By lnK?nr<iph—Press Association.) GREYMOUTH, Jan. 31. Heavy rain has flooded all the \\ est Coast streams. The Grey River tonight was within five feet of the wharf level and may rise higher. The Hokitika River was in high flood this evening after heavy inland rainfall. Hokitika streets were inundated, as was an area alongside the banks at Kanieri. Numerous slips have occurred on tile coast road between Hokitika and Westport, but cars went through to-day. There have been some stock losses m the Grey Valley. The Inangahua River lias flooded. The roads from Greymouth to Runanga, in. th-e Grey v al-, lev, also southwards and to Ot.ira, are to-night reported impassable in places. On the Otira Road there was a fatality in a flooded creek. Charles Murtlia aged 67, Ivumara, fell on a stone, fracturing his skull, when trying to push a motor car through the water.

NELSON ROAD BLOCKED RIVERS RUNNING HIGH NELSON, Jan. 31. As a result of ’heavy rain the Nel-son-Blenheim Road is blocked by flood waters at Canvastown. The NelsonWest Coast ‘ Read is blocked at the Brightwater bridge. The Maitai River is running bank high and is threatening to overflow the low-lving; areas.
