NEW GERMAN REGIME
HITLER’S COALITION CABINET HINTS OF FUTURE TROUBLE LONDON DOUBTS Ol< SUCCESS SOCIALIST GALL FOR STRIKE (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 9.50 a.m. to-day. LONDON, Jan. 30. London newspapers -generally are dubious concerning Germany’s prospects under a coalition, including Heir Hitler, Dr. von Pa-pen and Heir Hugenberg. Berlin political circles are discussing a widespread rumour that when Herr Hitler, Dr. P'apen and Herr Hugenberg visited President von Hindenburg they told the President that General von Schleicher was plotting to seize power with the' aid of the Reichswehr. HenHitler added that ne understood the Potsdam garrison was ready to march on Berlin in the interests of General Schleicher’s dictatorship. The st-ary not only cemented the alliance between Herr Hitler, Dr. Papen and Herr TEugcnbeig, but persuaded President Hindenburg to- assent to the political solution, they accepted. The official Communist organ in Berlin publishes declarations of war on the new Government and calls the Socialists to a general -strike. The “Guardian’s” Berlin correspondent says President Hindenburg hesitated long before appointing Herr Hitler, from whom he obtained an assurance that he would respect the constitution and uulei with the Reichstag's approval. The Centre Party may agree to tolerate the Cabinet, but whatever happens the Hitler Government will simply become- before long another presidential Government which President Hindenburg will find more difficult to dismiss than, any of the earlier Cabinets. ",
FERVOUR. IN BERLIN TRIBUTES TO CHANCELLOR BERLIN, Jan. 31. There were scenes of intense fervour in the Wilhelmstrasse to-niglit. Seventeen thousand Nazi stonn troops and Steel Helmets joined in a torchlight procession to the chancellery,. where Herr Hitler characteristically stood in the spotlight, answering the cheers and the Fascist salute. In contrast President von Hindenburg was standing soldier-like inside the window of his house o-pposite, acknowledging the plaudits. The whole Government quarter for the first time since the war was given up to rejoicings, in which Communists and Socialists were conspicuous by their absence. The Communists have already announced their intention of moving a motion of no-confidence in the Reichstag. A number of Communists were killed and several Communists and Nazis were injured in fighting in Munich following the announcement of Herr Hitler’s appointment. Communists evaded 'ho police, who were clearing the streets, and hissing, cheering crowds round Herr Hitler’s headquarters attacked a Nazi guard and thrashed several before fifty of the assailants were arrested. Bands ol belligerent- Nazis still parade the streets. Trouble is reported from several Bavarian towns.
