INTENTIONS OF “SMITHY”
TENDER, FOE. ATRI SEE,VICE AUSTRALIA AND ENGLAND (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAURANGA, Jan. 26. Sir Charles Kings ford Smith stated it was his intention to put in a ; tender for an English mail service this year. He said he would first tender to fly the mails between Australia and England and vice versa in a period of two weeks with the ultimate object of cutting down the time to' IS or 10 days. Sir Charles to-day met Mrs H. B. Hewitt, who claims to be the first certificated lady pilot in the world. She got the ticket in 1010. Yesterday Sir Charles took up ID full loads of joyriders. The Southern Cross is to arrive at Auckland to-morrow. The engines of the Southern Cross will probably be overhauled at Christchurch prior to the preparations for the flight hack to Australia from the Ninety Mile Beach.
