RED CROSS AT ELTHAM

MONTHLY MEETING HELD. (From Owr Own Correspondent). The Eitham branch of the Tted doss oociety hem its monthly meeting cJi Monday evening. I nose present were Aiesciauies toyine, Fletcher, iViuggeridgo A' oord, V alentine, Gutw J ones, vireignLon and KeaKes (secretary). The president (Mr. i. J. Bridget) presided. The secretary reported that eight adults and children had been assisted with ck>thing > _etc, at tne depot during the present month and the demand was increasing as the _ winter, month set in. Approximately £5 worth of new material and under garments had been purchased and there was still a great shortage of boys' trousers. Tb was decided to send out a circular letter of appeaL to residents of the residents or the district for any left off clothing' and to purchase another £5 worth of new articles. Mesdames by me, Gubb and Reakes were appointed a committee to purchase goods when required. The secretary further reported that the sum of £7 7s was received from the recent competitions arranged by Mesdames Foord and Prentice and also from donations collected by Mrs. D. Valentine. These ladies received the thanks of the committee. The Mayor wrote asking the society to appoint two delegates to attend a meeting of representatives of all societies and churches in Eltham for the purpose of the establishment and control of a relief depot during the four months of winter. Mesdames Goldsmith and Gubb were appointed to represent the society. It was decided to ask the borough council for a free picture entertainment in aid of the Red Cross clothing fund. Mesdames Syme and Goldsmith, were appointed to attend at the clothing depot which, in the future, will be open on Wednesday and Saturday after noons from 2 to 3 o’clock. The Eltham unemployed have set up a small committee to purchase stock and distribute meat at cost price to those on relief work. The local butchers have agreed to cut the meat up and distribute it free, of cost.
