ALLEGED CAUSE OF DEATH
NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE. CAR SMASH ON SOUTH ROAD. (By Telegraph—Speoial to “The Star.") NEW PLYMOUTH, May 23. The trial was commenced in the Supreme Court this morning, before Mr Justice Reed, of Alfred George Walker, on a charge of driving a motor car negligently on the South Road, near Hawera, on the night of March 22, thereby causing the death of Norman McLeod. Walker pleaded not guilty. The morning was occupied with the hearing of evidence for the prosecution, which -was not concluded at the luncheon adjournment.
GLOVER ROAD FATALITY
POKAU PLEADS GUILTY
NEW PLYMOUTH, May 23
When the Supreme Court resumed adjter the luncheon adjournment today the prisoner, Pikau Pekaii, was arraigned and lie pleaded guilty to the charge of driving a motor car negligently so as to collide with a bicycle and cause the death of Reginald Ernest Duggan on the Glover Road, Hawera, on the night of February 26. He was remanded for sentence until Friday afternoon.
