OPERA HOUSE. “POLITICS.” “Politics,” featuring Marie Dressier and Polly Moran, shows finally at the Hawera Opera House to-niglit. The picture is a hilarious story of Marie’s running for the mayoralty, with Polly Moran as her campaign manager. They prganise the women’s vote, expose the crooked mayor and his gangster satellites, call out the women on strike against their husbands when the men try to organise, and generally raise laugjhs galore. There are dramatic scenes, too, where Miss Dressjer has some remarkable character acting. The cast includes Rosco Ates. Karen Morley, AAMliam Bakewell, John Miljau, Joan Marsh, Tom McGuire, Kane Richmond and Mary Alden. The. story is an original by Zelda Sears, and Malcolm Stuart Boylan. It was adapted by Root, with dialogue by Robert E. Hopkins. It is an enchanting story of beauty, passion, mystery and intrigue in romantic old Constantinople. GRAND THEATRE. “HEAVEN ON EARTH.” “Heaven on Earth,” featuring Lew Ayres, shows finally at the Grand Theatre, Hawera, to-night. This picture lias definitely registered as Lew’s best screen effort since “All Quiet on the AVestern Front,” and tells an absorbing story of life on the Mississippi River, with young Ayres cast as the son of a steamboat captain. In its closing sequences, “Heaven oil Earth” achieves a climax which is the very height of excitement, and comes to a close in a situation which is vibrant with power. Ah episode of “The Indians are Coming” will also be shown.
