WHEEL OF CAR SHATTERED CRASH AT 100 MILES AN HOUR CAMPBELL RETAINS: CONTROL (United Press Association —By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) Received 1.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, April 6. “I suppose my: good luck holds. It is certainly on© of my worst experiences, ’’ said Sir Malcolm Campbell after his marrow shave from a fatal smash during the Easter races at Brook lands. In a handicap in which fifteen competitors participated Sir Malcolm was driving his own Bugatti doing 100 miles an hour. He had braked down to take a bend when the track rod holding the front wheels in position broke with a terrific crash and tore out the spokes of one wheel. The other wheel jammed. The Bugatti zigzagged Wildly. Thousands fining the banking breathlessly watched the driver desperately fighting to keep, the car on the track, on one side of which was a high banking, g fall over which would mean almost certain death. On the other side the crowds were packing the rails. The car careered perilously for at least half n- minute when Sir Malcolm, with a terrific effort, regained control. Ho got out cool and collected, hut said he did not know how he managed to hold the car oh the track. It was a. ghastly experience.
