The Mayor, Mr Jackson, president of the Municipall Association, when interviewed regarding wage reduction am,ono" municipal employees, saicl that he could not support the move unless the oasts of wheat and wheat products were first reduced. Hie cl armed . that the wheat import duties were unjustified, as the majority of the community was penalised for the benefit oi Canterbury farmers. i He was'of the opinion that the Government should seriously consider the duty removal before an ordinary wages cut! The question would be considered by the executive of the Municipal Association next month.
