PAINTER’S FALSE PRETENCE
PREMIUM FOR, INSTRUCTION. (By Telegi-apn—Press Association.) BLENHEIM, March 5. Arthur Turner, aged about 40 years, pleaded not guilty to a charge of obtaining £SO from Ellis Alfred. Fan by false pretence with intent to defraud. A painter and paperhanger by trade, he advertised for an employee who was prepared to put £oo iri the business. He agreed with Farr that on payment of £SO he would teach him the business, paying wages at £3 weekly. At the end of six months he would admit him to the money to be refunded with interest it Farr was dissatisfied. Within three months Turner disappeared and was traced to Westport. Fie was convicted and admitted to probation for two years on condition of repayment within six months. He was also convicted upon a charge of pledging a client’s credit for painting materials.
