MANGATOKI
GENERAL
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
After a few weeks of fine summer weather (which enabled the farmers to complete harvesting) a cold southerly wind, accompanied by heavy rain and hail, passed over the district on Friday. Still another of the severe shakes was felt on Saturday, although no damage has been reported. Much sympathy is felt for the sufferers of the stricken area. Thanks are due to the people of this district for the way they so willingly gave parcels of linen and clothing; also to the school children for the way in which they gathered eggs, amounting to 221- dozen. Air, Mrs and Master Carswell have returned to their home in AVellington.
Miss Linn is about again after her operation. Air S. AfcGuinness and Air B. Nicholas have returned from their trip to Hastings and Napier. Alaster C. and the Misses It. and M. Konks. of Napier, are the guests of AH* and Airs C. E. McGuinness.
