MATAPU
NEW YEAR BALL. i (From Our Own Correspondent.) The New Year ball organised by the young people of the district in aid of the tiower show, and held in the Matnpu Hall on Thursday evening, proved a great success, the taking amounting to about £32. It is expected that the flower show fund will benefit to the extent of about £lO. A very nice box of chocolates, generously donated by Mrs Gibbes, of Hawera, was won by Mr Fryer. Henderson's- orchestra of five instruments supplied excellent music. During the evening several novelty dances proved very popular and the ice cream stall was well patronised. PERSONAL. Mr Walter Songhurst, who has been the guest of Mr and Mrs W. T. Seed-, returned to Wellington on Saturday. Miss- Kathleen O'Sullivan returned to school in Wellington on Monday.
