WAGES TO RISE
WORKING HOURS REDUCED NEW SOUTH WALES DECISION. NEW AVENUES OF REVENUE.. (United Prtss Association—Bj Eiectnc Telegraph Copyright.) Received 11.30 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, Jan. 16. The State Cabinet dealt with the question of unemployment relief and work rates and conditions. For all trades a wage increase was agreed upon; also that the 40-hour week be reduced to 35 hours. The Premier, Mr J. T. Lang, stated that the Government had definitely- decided there would be no alteration .in the closing hours of hotels. An increase in stamp duties and death duties was agreed upon at the Cabinet, meeting, and the" Government also decided to raise additional revenue by means of a special tax on petrol bowsers.
