FATAL PLUNGE OF CAR
TRAGEDY NEAR, NAPIER
VICTIMS IDENTIFIED
(By Teletrraph—Pres3 Association.) NAPIER, Jan. .3. The victims of the motor fatality last evening have been identified as twoj brothers, Wilfred Selwyn (aged 33) and! Bernard Augustus Osborne (aged 43), of Palmerston North. As already reported, they were killed when their ear .plunged down a steep incline of 250 feet at Devil’s Elbow, about 20 miles from Napier on the main road to Wairoa. As they were travelling uphill towards Napier, they encountered a service ear owned by the Dtico Company. Owing to the dangerous nature of the. hill and the precipitous formation of the bank on the left, they were hugging the hank and consequently were travelling on the wrong side of the road. As the service car came into view they polled to the left, the -swerve taking them on to tko brink of the terrific drop and the driver was unable to straighten up again before the outside wheels of his car wore over the edge of the bank. Tim vehicle skid slowly over, hurtling to the bottom of the gorge once all four of its wheels had left the road. Both men died from the terrible iniuri'es they received. The: bodies were brought to Naipier ana an inquest was opened this morning and adjourned after evidence of identification had been given bv a, cousin of the Osborne •familv, named Honore.
