BRITAIN’S BUDGET
BIG DEFICIT LIKELY,
(United Pies? Association—By Electric Telegraph
Copyright.) LONDON, Jan. 1,
Treasury returns for the nine months ending December 31 show a deficit of £180,000,000 compared with £170,000,000 for the similar period of last year. The figures indicate the probability of a .substantial deficit at the end of the Budget year. A wireless message point* out, however, that no estimate of the year’s results can be formed at this stage, as the larger part of the income tax is usually collected in the last quarter of the financial year. Substantial increases are recorded in revenue during the nine months front income tax surtax and death duties. Decreases occurred in revenue from stamps, excise and miscellaneous receipts.
