EXPLOSION IN LABORATORY.

FOREIGN POWERS INTERESTED

(United Pre«s Association— By Electric Telegraph Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 29. Scotland Yard is investigating an extraordinary ease of a young scientist who invented a method of rendering aeroplanes fireproof, the “Star” declares. He allegedly’ has been the victim of attacks by foreign emissaries. The scientist perfected his invention early this y-car, whereupon he received inquiries from an Eastern Power and later from European Powers and firms. He replied that he preferred to keep his invention for England. While testing apparatus connected, with a fireproof suit enabling tne wearer to face the most intense heat, the scientist noticed an unusual flame coming from .the nozzle. He kicked it from his assistan’s hand, whereupon it. exploded, blowing a large bole in the laboratory wall. Examination revealed that some foreign substance had been placed in the apparatus in order to wreck it. Laboratory drawers had been forced open and locks broken. Since then the scientist complains he has been shadowed and attempts have been made to decoy him from home by’ means of fictitious telephone messages. Samples and notes have been stolen from his laboratory.

He lias applied to Scotland Yard for permission to carry firearms on the ground that his life is endangered. The “Star” learns that Scotland Yard has handed over the case to the special branch dealing with spies and aliens, which has several men under observation.
