PARLIAMENT MAY MEET EARLY,

PARTY LEADERS’ OPINIONS.

All three political leaders made brief reference to the possibility of Parliament being called together for a special session before the normal time in June next during their valedictory remarks at the close of the session in the House of Representatives on Saturday evening “It may be necessary to call Parlia-

t ment together earlier than the usual time,” said the aeting-Primo Minister, Hon. E. A. Ransom. “Whether that P will be so or not, I want to give an as- [■ surance that the Government will be , ever watchful to take steps to conserve our prosperity in the markets of the . world. I hope the effect of the Imperial Conference will bo of such a character . that some material advantages will aci erue, not only to this country, but also to the Empire as a whole.” “It was interesting to hear the - deputy-leader say it might be necessary to call Parliament together earlier than ‘ usual.” said the leader of the Opposition, Right Hon. J. G. Coates. “I know lie hopes it won’t be necessary, but if it is necessary I am certain that every member will readily respond to the call. I. too, hope it won’t be necessary, but at the same time might I suggest that there are many urgent problems that could usefully be placed before Parliament.” The leader of the Labour Part}', Mr H. E. Holland, said that if the necessity' arose for calling Parliament together shortly after the Prime Minister returned, he was sure every member would make a cheerful and" ready response. He suggested a short session, if necessary, earlier in the New Year and the ordinary session in the winter.
