OKAIAWA CRICKET CLUB

SEASON’S PLAY REVIEWED.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Okaiawa Cricket Club' was held at the Okaiawa Hall last evening. In the absence ol the president (Mr E. G. Betts) Mr O. Crawford, vice-president, occupied the chair. The report stated that the season had been a aery successful one. For the second season hi succession Okaiawa occupied the position ot runners-up in the South Taranaki competition to Old Bovs, to which club Okaiawa. wished, to extend congratulations. Of 12 games played in championship matches Okaiawa won, 10 and lost two. The side batted very consistently and was not dismissed) ior under 100 during the season, the average score being 154. Seven batsmen had quite fair averages, R. Eden being top of tlie list with an, average of 34.6 runs an innings and A. Betts occupied second place with an average of 24.5. D. Crawford headed the bowling average- with 29 wickets at a cost of 0.4 runs and H. R. Penny was next- with 52 wickets at an average of 5.7. Financially the club was. in a, fairly sound position, the credit balance to commence the new period being £3 4s 7d. The report concluded with expressions of thanks to the lady supporters, who had provided afternoon tea and to the Press.

The adoption of the report and balance-sheet was moved by the chairman who congratulated the club on the position disclosed in the- report and the playing members on the excellent record for the season’s play.

The motion was seconded by Mr IT. R. Penny and was adopted after a brief discussion.

OFFICERS ELECTED.

The election of officers resulted as follows: Patrons. Mr J. Barclay (reelected); president, Mr E. G. Betts (reelected) ; vnce.-preskleiits, Messrs 0. Crawford, A. Lees (re-elected) and A. J. Mack; honorary secret-ay, Mr R. Murdoch (re-elected) ; delegates to the association, Messrs H. D. Hughes (reelected), F. AY. Atkins and A. Betts; selectors, Messrs F. AAV Atkins and H. R. Penny; club captain, Air H. R. Penny (irei-eHoctet!) ; 'auditor, Mr A. Lees (re-elected).

Appreciation was expressed by the meeting of the services rendered by all officials during the season, particular references being made to the work of the president (Mr E. G. Betts), the secretary (Air R. Murdoch)' and the club captain (Mr H. R.. Penny) in their respective spheres, l of activity. It was decided- that subscriptions in accordance with the previous scale be £1 Is for .seniors and 7s 6s for players under 18 with an afternoon tea levy of ss.

Saturday next was decided upon, as the date of the .season opening practice, players to assemble n.t 1.30 p.m. The action of the club captain in obtaining equipment for the coming season was endorsed.

A proposal that an experiment be made with a. wicket dressed with tai and sawdust in place of tar and sand was made by Mr Penny and approval was given to his suggestion that the experiment be made on the pactice wicket-.
