THE CHEESE QUESTION
MR VEALE’S REPORT
ATTITUDE OF MR SINGLETON “AUCKLAND STAR’S” VIEWS. In am editorial, the following comment on the cheese question is made in Tuesday’s “Auckland Star.” “Representatives of the Taranaki dairy factories at Hawera yesterdlay took. strong exception to the attitude adopted In- Mr Singleton of the Dairy Division, in regard to- the cheese problem and to Ills criticism of Mr Yeale’s report. Eventually they passed a resolution supporting the proposal of the Minister of Agriculture to set up a committee of investigation on this subject. There was no need for Mr Singleton to take Air Veale’s report as an .attack on the department. .But whether Air Yeale is right or Mr Singleton is wrong, it is undeniable that the quality of our cheese is such, that it does not .command a :high price in the Home market. This is a- matter of on eh serious.' importance to- New Zealand that there is every reason for expediting an inquiry into the cause of failure and we hope that the Minister will take the course indicated without delay.” _
