DR. BARNARDO’S HOMES
YOUNG HELPERS’. LEAGUE
A very pleasant “box opening’ party tor the members of the Hawera oraiich of tlie Hr. Barnado’s Homes Young Helpers’ League was held recently- at cue residence of the president,’ Mrs. ,\V. G. Strange. The guest of honour was Mrs H. T. Lovell, tlie retiring president. An opportunity was taken during the afternoon to thank Mrs. .Lovell for her long and faithful service to tlie Young Helpers-’ League. The Mayoress, Mrs. E. A. Pacey, in pinning on the Distinguished Order of Waifs’ Service -badge, presented by tbe society, complimented Mrs. Lovell on her 16 years’ service and hoped she would be long spared to wear such a unique and honourable decoration. Master David Sage presented the guest with a. “sweet” bouquet from the members. Mrs. Lovell very feelingly replied to the many expressions of congratulations.
Amongst those present ivere Mesdames ,T. R-. Corrigan, E. A. Pacey, W. J. Bright W. M. Thomson, McKinnon, Simpson, Miss Young and Miss Gwen Purser. A dainty afternoon tea was served. Recitations were given by Misses Joy Winks, Hazel Jones and Jean Veitcli.
The amount collected from the boxes and donations given wais £l2 10s.
