PIONEER SETTLER PASSES
MAORI WAR. VETERAN. (By Telegraph— Press Association). HASTINGS, June 20. The death has occurred of Mr. William Heslop, a Hawke s Bay pioneei and a Maori War veteran. Bom at Blackball, Northumberland, England, in 1845, the late Mr. Heslop came to New Zealand ten years later. At one time he was owner of Omaranui estate, where the historical battle was fought lie was one of the officials of the hi st agricultural show held m Hawke s Bay in 1863, and before his retirement cairied off many awards in successive shows. He also acted as a judge ot sheep and horses. His wile pi deceased him five years ago and lie leaves two sons—Messrs G. Heslop (Wairoa) and Harold Heslop (Kaikohe) —and three daughters—Mesdames b. J. Bennett (Hamilton), Ida Messenger (Buckland) and Florence Heslop (Hastings)- ______
