The offerings at the wool sales today totalled 9577 bales, of. which 9153 were .sold at auction and 1143 privately. The French competed very actively for wools showing quality and Japanese sought medium quality, well-grown lines. Prices were generally at the best point of the week. Greasy Merino brought 213 d a lb. The resumption of : the wool sales at Melbourne found the. demand 1 very strong for all the better class of Merinos, for which there was a pronounced hardening tendency. Offerings totalled 8000 bales and satisfactory clearances were made. LONDON WOOL SALES. Received 10.30 a.m. to-day. LONDON. May 21. At the wool sales 7800 bales were offered, including 3780 from New Zealand. About 7040 were sold. There was a moderate selection of greasy Merinos, mostly spinners’ sorts, and a good offering of all sorts of New Zealand wool. A strong tone continues, all sections operating at lull late rates.
