ISLAND HOME DESTROYED.

Fire totally destroyed the 12-roomed two-storeyed homestead of Harold Bull on Puketutu Island, Alanukau Harbour, this afternoon, the loss being estimated at £50:10. Air. and Mrs. were the only ones on the island when the fire broke out. They wine in the garden at the time, but managed to get a small quantity of furniture out of the house. The furniture was not placed far enough away, however, and, as the fire progressed, was ruined. Just when the fire was at its height Douglas Mill and a companion-, Hying in a Atotli aeroplane, sighted the outbreak and made a difficult binding on a paddock near tiie homestead They lent valuable aid in helping Air. Bail to save the outbuildings and garage, in which there was a motor-car. The homestead and furniture were insured, but Afr. Bull’s loss is severe.
After the fire the aeroplane took off successfully in the short space.
