“FAIR” REPORTS FOR LEGISLATORS. MR. O’BRIEN’S BRIGHT IDEA. (Bv Telegraph—Special to the Star.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 16. Per.-listing in the fac-e of continued laughter and facetious interjections, Mr O’Brien (Westland) gave notice to ask the Prime Minister if, in consequence of -t*he “distorted or suppressed reports of the members’ speeches by certain newspapers and the undue prominence given to other members in the interests of a particular party,” lie woulid consider the establishment of a State newspaper? Members interrupted to declare, “that would be still worse.’ l Mr O’Briien went on to suggest that such a newspaper should be under the control -of a. civil service editor, charged with the duty of guaranteeing a. correct report of the doings of Parliament and full reports! of members' speeches, irrespective of party. Such a, newspaper, eariyVing Government advertisements, must, lie declared, be a profitable investment. A member: “Nobody wouvd read it. (L am glitcr).
