FATALITY I.N A COAL MINE. HAMILTON, Aug. 16. A. verdict of accidental death was returned at Huntly at an inquest held l concerning the death ct Broadibent, who vas killed by a. fall of coal at !votowaeo mine on July 26. TliiO evidence showed that two mates Joseph, O’Brien and William Henderson, were also Involved in the fall of coal, which occurred while- removing a pillar of coal. Henderson, though injured, helped to extricate O’Brien, but was unable to rescue Broadbent, who was covered by three feet of coal. The jury added a rider expressing the opinion that when miners are extracting a. pillar of coal in .isolated, places, shiftmen should ibe employed near by in ease of accident. The coroner, Mr Farrell, and the foreman of the jury, Air El. George, remarked upon the bravery of Henderson in saving O’Brien’s life. DIED FROM INJURIES. HAMILTON. Aug. 16. Airis Lillian Fear, a, widow aged 50, of Claudel and®, died this morning from injuries received in an accident on Wednesday. She was riding a cycle in Claudelands and collided with a car driven by T. AV. Carter, of Cambridge. Carter and bis passengers state that the deceased caime from behind another car, began to swerve across the road! and then attempted to swerve back to the left. She was carried with the cycle for some distance on the front of the car. Her injuries were at first thought not. to be serious. HANGING BY STOCK WHIP. GISBORNE', Aug. 16. Arthur Edward Burch, aged 52, a drover, was found by his. wife early this morning hanging by -ai stock whip from a. bluegum tree near his residence. FARMER FOUND DEAD, HASTINGS, Aug. 16. The police received word this morning that Charles Moo-re, aged 58 years, a small farmer at Whakatu, had been found hanging from a tree. He _ was suffering from influenza, and was missed last evenfn.s. He. was- found after a search lasting all night.
