TOWN BOARD MEETING

At tlie monthly meeting of the Town Board, held on Tuesday night, there were present: Commissioners C. J. Preston (chairman), A. Galloway, T. Floyd, and A. Hills. An apology was received from Commissioner P. Leydon. . A letter was received from tlie sec-, rotary of the Normanby School Committee asking if the board would asphalt that portion of the footpath in front of tlie school facing tlije* main road for the length of the stone wall. He pointed out that the school committee had gone to considerable expense in laying down bitumen patns at the school, and if the fotopath was done it would" enhance the whole work. —The matter was left with tlie Works, Committee, with power to act. Tlie Main Highways Board wrote and enclosed plans of what was considered the most suitable way to erect traffic signs. The clerk was instructed to write to the district .engineer of railways informing him that the board was carry-, ing out repairs to the road at the crossing north of the railway station, and as the crossing itself was in a, very rough state, it would be advisable to have it bitumenised up to the rails on both sides. If the Railway Department would pay the cost of the portion within its boundary, the board would carry out the work. The dog registration fee for tlie ensuing year was fixed as follows: Cattle dogs 2s 6d, all other dogs 10s each. Mr. D. Stewart was appointed registrar and his residence the registration office. Accounts to the amount of £22 7s 4d were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned. STATUTORY HALF-HOLIDAY. A special meeting of the Town Board was held last night for the purpose of fixing the day of the week on which the statutory half-holiday should be held. A resolution was passed that Wednesday be the statutory halfholiday.
