GOODS WAGGONS DERAILED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAIHAPE, Jan. 16. Three waggons on a goods train were derailed lialf a mile south or Mataroa about two o’clock this morning. A breakdown train from Taifiape cleared the line at 5.45 a.m. The first express from Auckland was delayed at Ohakune till the second express arrived, and together they went on to Taifiape. Not much damage was done. The cause of the accident is a mystery.
PALMERSTON N. f Jan. IC. Owing to the derailment of the goods train at Mataroa, near Taihape, the southbound express trains were delayed. The Limited and the Main Trunk express were detained at Ohakuno and, in order to facilitate running, were joined together and arrived here shortly after ten. o’clock. It was one of the longest trains ever berthed locally, extending the full length of the platform. It was composed of the two engines and twenty ears. TWO YOUNG MEN MISSING. HOKITIKA, Jan. 16. On Monday, January 7, two young men named James Park, aged 18 (son of the Crown-Prosecutor at Hokitika), and John Morpeth, aged 16 (son of the Commissioner of Crown Landis, Hokitika), left Lake Kanieri far the'purpose of walking over Browning’s Pass to Lake Coleridge. Their non-arrival on due date, and heavy floods on Thursday last caused search parties to be -sent out. After rough travelling searchers from Kokatahi met searchers from Coleridge. Yesterday, neither party found any trace and the gravest fears are felt for their safety. SMALL VESSEL ASHORE .AT HOKITIKA. HOKITIKA, Jan. 16. The motor ship, Zingara, when outward bound at two o’clock this morning, broke the chain steering gear when on the bar and was washed ashore on the South side of the southern protection works.
