A POLICE RAID
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 14. A party of police from Christchurch made a raid on an alleged sly-grog shop at Hanmer Springs on Saturday and secured a good haul. Since the destruction by fire of the Jollie’s Pass Hotel the district has been “dry,” the Lands Department having declined to renew the lease of the sectiofi on which the hotel formerly stood.
CHARGES AGAINST BANK OFFICIAL.
AUCKLAND, Jan. 14. Six charges of theft of amounts totalling £507 13s 4d were preferred against William Frederick Thomas at the Police Court. The charges related to dates between January 7 and December 10 last year. Accused, who is 27 years of age, and a clerk employed by the Commercial Bank of Australia, was remanded to January 24. Bail was fixed at £IOO.
