THE CORINTHIC’S ARRIVAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. The steamer Corinthic, Avhic-li was expected next Monday, has radioed that she will not arrive till daybreak next Thursday. LEAK ON THE ROTORUA. WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. When the Rotorua was 180 miles from Wellington a leak was discovered in the stern gland of the starboard propellor. She turned back, owing to the impossibility of effecting repairs at sea. Although a considerable amount of water entered through the damaged gland, tAvo pumps were sufficient to control the inflow and both engines were worked in the normal A\ r ay. A diver made an inspection this morning and assisted the engineer to remove the gland. It is expected that tlie Rotorua Avill be ready to resume the Voyage this afternoon. On the last visit to England the packiifg in the glands of both propellers Avas renewed.
MOTH PLANE FOR HASTINGS. NEW PLYMOUTH, Jan. 12. Mr. Mills, in a Moth aeroplane, left New Plymouth at 12.20 p.m., with Mr. Smi ( tli as pilot, for Hastings, where he expects to arrive at 3 p.m. INVITATION TO ROWING CHAMPION. WELLINGTON, Jan. 12. An invitation has been extended by the New Zealand Amateur Rowing Association to R. Pearce, Olympic and Australian champion sculler, to compete at the Wellington Regatta on February 16, and Ncav Zealand Championship Rtegatta on the 23rd. The Association has offered Pearces club £25 towards the expenses. TRESTLES CARRIED AWAY. ■OAMARU, Jan. 12. A sudden rise in the Waitiki River at the site of the hydro-electric works submerged two barges above the trestles to carry the railway across the river. The barges subsequently broke through the trestles, one-sixtluof which Avas carried away. The repairs will occupy about a fortnight and ‘will not appreciably delay the AVOrk.
