The Dope has announced that 1929, which marks the jubilee of his first Mass, shall be considered a holy year, with extra ordinem, states the Lome correspondent of “The Times.” He accordingly grants during • the year plenary indulgence under four conditions. The conditions 'are: The faithful dwelling in the diocese of Rome, and pilgrims thereto, must twice visit three named basilicas in order to pray, particularly for the conversion of sinners, the extirpation of heresy and schism, for the peace and concord of the princes and the prosperity and freedom of the Catholic Church and the head thereof. If persons are prevented by distance or other legitimate reason from complying with the conditions, confessors may commute them to visits to a parish church. Additional fasts must be observed. Persons must make an additional confession and partake of extra communion. Persons must make charitable offerings according to their means and according to the confessor’s advice. Such ofiering must be made ah important work and an example of propagation and preservation of faith. Jubilee indulgence may be earned several times, but additional indulgences must be for the benefit of souls in purgatory. The Pope believes the faithful should hasted to avail themselves of this precious spiritual opportunity for morals, faith and Christian piety.
