A London message reports the death of Mr .William Weddel, the well-knoAvn meat importer. Mrs. J. L. Weir, of Eltham, a sister of Mrs. OxbroAv, left for Hastings this morning on receipt of the news of the sad drowning accident yesterday. Matron McKenny, of the Wanganui Hospital, is resigning from her post after 22 years’ service. Mr. J. S. Barton, S.M.. Avill leave Wanganui on Wednesday to take up his duties on the Magisterial bench at Wellington.

A Press Association message announces the death of William Henry Burch, aged 83, first manager of Wailii Goldmining Company, and one of the founders of the Thames School of Mines. The ninth Earl of Egmont, who Avas born in New Zealand on June 29, 1858, died yesterday at Avon Castle, Ringwood, Hants, Ehgland. The heir to the title is a distant kinsman, Mr. Frederick J. T. P. Perceval, who is 55 years of age.

Mr. Eric Chathvick, of the Public Trust Office, Avho has been transferred on promotion to Christchurch, left for his new sphere of Avork to-day. He has been a valued member of the Old Boy's Cricket Club since its foundation, and to show the higli regard in Avhich he is held by members, he was farewelled at Mr.' Walker’s residence last night, and Avas presented with an autograph book.
