ELTHAM BOROUGH MATTERS.

RESIGNATION OF TOWN CLERK. A special meeting of the Eltham Borough Council, presided over by the Mayor (Mr. I. J. Bridger) was held last evening to receive the resignation of the town clerk (Mr W. Waters), who has accepted an appointment Avith a British film corporation with headquarters in Wellington. There Avere also present: Crs. A. Kemp, J. O’Hagan, G. W. Tayler, R. L. Garden, G. W. Peebles, A. C; Sorenson and L. Nairn. On the motion of the Mayor, seconded by Cr. Nairn, the clerk’s resignation Avas accepted at one month’s notice in lieu of the usual three months’ notice, to enable Mr Waters to take up his new position early in February. General regret Avas expressed that Mr Waters had elected to relinquish the position of town clerk, which he has creditably filled for the past eight years, during which term he has also acted as manager of the council’s cinema since J 923.

It was resolved to invite applications for the dual position of town clerk and pictures manager at a commencing salary of £350 per annum. It was further resolved that the Town Hall custodian (Mr R. Velvin) be alloAA-ed three months’ tuition as picture operator, the permanent appointment to he reviewed at' the expiration of that period.
