PRIMARY SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY

GOOD PLAY SHOWN

Much interest has been shown in the tennis tourney run by. the Hawera Tennis Club for players from tiie primary schools ol South Taranaki, which was begun this morning at the Hawera courts.

Forty entries were received from schools representing practically every part of tne district of Soutli Taranaki and soutli to Waverley, and these included a number of very promising young players. The managers of the tourney are Misses K. Robertson and Knight and Mr. A. W. Lawn, and their arrangements have been so. well made that everything is going without a hitch. RESULTS OF PLAY. First round. —Girls: J. Dyson beat J. Sangster, 9 —3; M. Pollard beat M. dander, 9 —3; At. Dickie beat A. \V atts, 9 —4. First round. —Boys: Jones beat Goodson, u—3; McDonald beat Petersen; Tapp beat McDonald; Nowell, M. Sheeny, Riley, Berg, and Hunter won by default.
