FLOODS IN FITZROY VALLEY. RESCUE OF ELDERLY COUPLE. (United Press Association —By Electric Telegrapli Oopyright.) (Australian Press Association.) BRISBANE, Dec. 9 A severe storm swept the Fitzroy River valley to-day, two and a-lialf inches of rain falling in 30 minutes. ( recks in the gullies became raging torrents and hailstorms in some places added to the destruction. An elderly couple- named McWhirter were crossing a creek near .Barkhurst when the flood caught the buggy, which capsised. A young man named Richard Bowles' rescued both the occupants, though the old man had a narrow escape as he was entangled in the buggy and injured. Bowles then saved the team and vehicle.
