TO BE TESTED ON STEAMER.
ON VOYAGE TO' NEW ZEALAND. (United Fress Association —By Electric Telegrapn Copyright.) (Australian Press Association.! Received 1.30 p.m. to-day. LONDON, Dec. 9. The “Daily Express” says: The Government’s' coal experiment includes a test for the use of residue from low temperature carbonisation. This produces a. smokeless fuel, but in most cases it is difficult to burn. Recent research resulted in the invention of a pulverising plant making the residue cheaper for steamship fuel than either coal or oil. In the presence' of the Admiralty, Board of Trade, British, .French and Dutch shipping representatives', a successful experiment of the new fuel was carried out aboard the Hororata. She will shortly thoroughly try out the fuel on the voyage to New Zealand.
