JUBILEE' CELEBRATIONS AT NORMANBY.

A noteworthy event was celebrated yesterday at the Presbyterian Church at Normanbv, when the jubilee services were held in the presence of large congregations, both morning and evening. Special services were held The Rev. W. Miller, M.A.., -of Manaia, conducted the morning service, and the Rev. J. McGregor the evening service. Both services were well attended and quite a number of past members were present. Inspiring addresses were preached ■ by both ministers, special reference be-, ing made to the men and women of the past, who laid the foundation of the church in the district. They were listened to with close interest. The music too was suitable to the occasion ia all present joined heartily in the service of song. RE-UNION ON TUESDAY. The celebrations will conclude tomorrow (Tuesday-* evening, when a reunion tea will be held in the town hall at 6 p.m. A good number of replies liave 'been received from past members who are now away from the district, intimating their intention of being present. After the tea a combined concert will be given by the Hawera and Normanbv Presbyterian Church choirs. The programme will, include duets, solos, etc. Among the choral items rendered by the choir will l be “The Soldiers’ Chorus,” “Land oi Hope and Glory,” and: “The Angelas.” The choir, consisting of forty voices, will be led by Mr Charles Lamb, and Mr. L. Rowe will pi'eside at the piano. Altogether a most enjoyable evening should be spent. (From Our Own Cor respondent). TARANAKI EGG LAYING COMPETITION. At a meeting of the Taranaki Egg Laying Competition Society, held at Norniaiiby there were present: Messma D : . Stewart (president), G. Gaytard (secretaiy), A. J. Davey, \Y. Cannon, J. B. Wilson, W. Ferguson, and C. H. Barker. It was removed that the next competition should commence on April 4, 1929, and. run for 50 weeks. The schedule was revised. An innovation next year will be a three-bird test. Any competitor making three entries -in the single bird test will have their total eggs tallied and a prize will he 'given for the three pullets laying the most eggs. This .gives a competitor who enters three ■birds a chance of winning in the single bird and also the three bird test without extra entry fees'. Owing to inquiries for pens .at the next competition, it is evident that more will have to be built, but it was decided that the number would be limited) to twenty extra fowl pens and eleven duck pens. This will make prolusion for 68 pullets and twenty ducks. A wide range of prizes wild be offered In addition to the prizes for the greatest number of eggs laid in each section, there will be a special prize for tlie most eggs laid during the first four months and also during the last four months of the competition; also for the greatest weight of eggs l ,and best exhibition bird. The judging will be done by one of the Government poultry experts.
