BYRD EXPEDITION.
WEEKLY BROADCAST MESSAGES. SENT FROM AMERICAN STATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) GISBORNE, Oe't. S. The inauguration of weekly programmes of wireless messages to members of the Byrd Antarctic expedition at present aboard the base ship, City o'f Now York, en route to Dunedin, took place yesterday aftor■noon, t-h-e Pittsburgh station EDNA being occupied for over two hours in reading messages and greetings from all parts of the world -to the explorers. Throughout the broadcast, Mr -Robert Pally, Station 2AE, Gisborne, and Mr Alex ißeid, Station 2:BE, Montreal, amateur -operators, stood by to check the results of transmission, Mr Reid reporting direct to the organiser, Mr George A. Wendt, of the Canadian Westinghouse 'Company. KDKA, which has dropped its wave length to 25.5 metres, was heard distinctly from early afternoon and the initial vocal broadcast was considered highly satisfactory.
'Subsequently Mr V r endt spoke from KDKA, intimataing that the programme would be continued weekly. He acknowledged a report /received from Mr Patly and expressed appreciation of the assistaance given by him in tho preliminary tests.
