UNITED PARTY’S CANDIDATES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 15. The United Party announces' that Mr Thomas Lock head, of Te Puna, will be its candidate for the Taurftnga. seat, and Air J. !M. Turnbull, of Glen Massey, for the Raglan seat.

Giving judgment in an involved will case to-day, concerning the estate, of Mrs. Margaret Iverr, of New Brighton. who left an estate valued at £II,OOO, All'. Justice Adams said, that one passage in the will had. no intelligible meaning consistent with the general tenor of the will, and must have been placed- there by some blundering draftsman or copyist. The effect of the judgment was to include all children and grandchildren of Mrs. Kerr in a share of the bequest, and the nonsensical passage was thrown out.

SURVEYORS’ CONFERENCE

NEW PLYMOUTH, Aug. 15

The- annual conference of the Institute of Surveyors opened to-day, and the delegates were welcomed by the Mayor. The officers elected were: Vice-presidents, Afessrs. F. I. Ledger (Nelson), L. C. Sladden (New Plymouth) ; councillor, Air. C. K. Grierson (Auckland); auditor. Air. J. G. G. Field (Wellington). The next conference will be held at Christchurch. A proposal for the council to meet nunrterly instead o.f half-yearly was lost.
