GOOD RANGE OF PRICES

The demand for cattle -of good quality and in good condition, and in the ease of dairy stock, showing fair type, was emphasised at the sales held yesterday at -Hawera, when there was a good ‘ yarding and the majority were quitted at satisfactory prices. Buyers were present in -fair numbers and bidding was brisk and firm throughout, as is to be expected when it is realised that, there is somewhat of a shortage of stock and that- for most lines there is a need on the farms, especially for dairy heifers. Dairy stock brought, up to £ls, with an average of about £lO 10s; empty cows commanded fairly good money, ranging from £3 to £4 12s fid. Gonditi-on tells especially in cattle's for the butchers, and a ‘fine line of twelve from Hawke’s Bay realised £ll a -piece. There was a fair yarding of' pigs and prices for stores range.d fr'om 23s down to 16s fid, the average working out at 20s. . . ’ ;
