UNKNOWN SOLDIER.
OWNERSHIP OF MEDAL. POSSIBLE EARLY. ANNOUNCEMENT. According to advice received by the town clerk of iClirjstehurch (Mr J. S. Neville) from iMr J. Hislop, Under-See-retary of Irufcern'al Affairs, inquiries are still being made by the Government regarding the identity of the soldier on whose body was foiinu a medal bearing the name, “M. Taylor,” and -the initials, ‘ ‘IB.S.'C. ’ ’lt is hoped in fire course of a few days that it will ‘be possible to make an important 'announcement. Mr Hislop s'aid there was no possibility of the medal having belonged to Sergeant B. iS. Jv. 'Cox, who was killed many miles from the locality in which the unknown soldier ’s body was found. With reference to the opinion expressed By the brother of iSorgeant Cox, that he was killed in France, and not Belgium, Mr Hislop said Passichendaele was well within the Belgian border, and tlie name of Sergeant Cox was commemorated oil a special .memorial in Tyne Cot cemetery, which is in Belgium.
