BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING

The monthly meeting ©if the Board of Governors' of the Hawera Technical High School was held last evening, when the following member® were present:—Mr R."S. Sage (chairman), Mrs J. W. Harding, Messrs J. Gray, A. L. Campbell 1 . T. C. Hobbs, W. Bntwidtle, W. Crompton and J. W. Harding. _ Apologies for absence were reoeived from (Messrs Bowman, Murdoch, and Bees. HEADMASTER’S REPORT, Mr A. Gray, headmaster, reported that Miss Smyth, newly-appointed to the teaching istaif, had taken up her duties on J line 5. The concreting work had been completed and the school wiaiS indebted t a Mr Brown, the contractor, for the minimum of inconvenience .suffered during the work. GENERAL. It was resolved that it bo placed on record thr? board’s appreciation of Messrs Qlasson, Gawith., Sutherland, Pierce, and Murdoch’s services for the interesting lessons given in tire farming section, and. for the free tralispo ll which enabled pupils to avail -themselves of the lectures 'in regard to thus Accounts amounting to £260 ISs 8d were passed for payment. The instruction by fanners to the acrioultural class is proceeding splendidly. the report continued. VVe are grateful for a fine lesson Worn. AD Gawith in gates and fences. The lesson, took place on Mr_ Gawith s farm, and was most interesting and instructive Rile boys greatly appreciated afternoon tea kindly supplied.by Mr. Gawith. On another day a visit was paid to the Manaia State Farm, where Sir Glasson gave a most valuable account’of the work being done. On this occasion we were indebted to; Messrs Sutherland, Pierce and A. Murdoch for trail snorting the class in their cars. CORRESPONDENCE. A letter was received from Mr Newton( tendering his resignation from the school staff.—lt was decided to accept the resignation, to take effect as from the end of the term. Correspondence was received from the Railway Department with refeionce to (school passes, suggesting that the matter be referred to the Education Department for consideration. A letter was received from the Education Department in connection with paying {share of concreting paths, etc., at the school. It was pointed 1 ' out that the Department was not prepaired to pay anything towards the costs except by way of subsidy on voluntary contributions.
