WANGANUI SALE

At the Wanganui sale on Wednesday there was a good yarding of sheep with a - moderate entry of cattle and pigs. Fat sheep again sold well, and a particularly nice pen of Down-cross 2-tooth s (good prime sheep) made 40s Id. Hoggets in the early part of the isale sold well, but eased slightly as the sale advanced. Fat cattle were inclined to be dull, local butchers evidently having plenty on hand for present requirements.

The sale, taken all round, was quite a good one, firm on recent rates. Quotations :

Cattle.—Fat cows (second quality), £6 10s to £7 ss; light steers, £8 12s 6d; forward cows, £5; store cows and heifens, £3 7s 6d to £4 7s 6d; Jerseycross heifers, £3 8s to £4 6s; young steers, £5; good dairy heifens (spring cal verst £9 ss; dairy cows (fair quality), £5 to £7.

Pigs.—Porkers, 28s to 355; good stores, 255; good weaners, 12s; small weaners, 5s to 8s; vealers (small) 30s; Sheep.—Prime m.s. Down-cross 2tooths, 40s Id; prime ewes, 30s 4d to 31s 9d; fat 2-tooth wethers, 34s 6d to 375; forward ewes, 295; s.m. ewes, in lamb to S.s>. rams, 31s; wether hoggets, 22s lOd to 235; ditto (small), 18s 2d to 19s 6d;. cull hoggets, 16s .9d ; b.f. hoggets, 18s 6d to 235;- forwardwethers (good), 36s Id; store wethers (aged), 255; 2-tooth wethers, 34s 6d.
