NEW ZEALAND GOLD MEDAL

Advice has been received; by Mr L. O. Hooker, of Hawera, that Mass Beatrice Shields, L.T.C.L., of Patea, and a pupil of the uVlissieis Reilly, Hawera, has boon awarded the New Zealand Gold Medal for 1927 by the; Trinity College of Music. London. This gold medal, which succeeds one formerly presented by the Right Hon. Lord Plunket, K.C.V.0., when Governor-General of New Zealand, is awarded annually to the candidate gaining the highest position among the licentiates of the year .at the diploma examinations held throughout New Zealand. NORTH ISLAND EXAMINER. The Board of Trinity College of Music (London) announce blip appointment of Mr C. Egerton Lowe, F.T.C.L., as the examiner for the college this year in practical subjects—pianoforte, organ, violin, singing, elocution, ensemble playing etc. Mr Egerton Lowe received his musical education in London and Leipzig, the pianoforte and violin being his principal subjects. He has had a very wide teaching connection in and around London, and has made a specialty of preparation for public examinations. He j® a well-known lecturer and writer on musical subjects, and ail adjudicator at important British and South African musical festivals. His published l works include a primer on harmonics, “Hints to Young Violinists,” “A Chronological Cyckipsediia of Music,” “The History', Analysis and Rendering of Beet'hven’s Sonatas,” ‘‘Harmony and Aural Training in theSinging Class,” “Word Phrases to Bach’s Fugues, with Hints on Their Rendering,” ‘‘The Art of Pianoforte Practice,” “Hints to Elocution Candidates.”
