TE ROTI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

LEAP YEAR. BALL.

The Leap Year Ball, held in the local hall on Wednesday, 21st inst., was an unqualified suqoess. It was conducted by uhe young bloods of this: district, and the results of their united efforts will—it is to be hoped—be an incentive to conduct more dances in the near future.

The committee spared no pains, on the floor, achieving that glassy surface for which this hall is renowned. The M.C.’s R Hooper and F. Cockerton, worked hai’d to ensure all a good time, their task being no light one as about fifty couples took the floor for the first dance. Mrs. Bennett (piano) and F. Mi 11s (violin) must have felt gratified at the vociferous encores, at the conclusion of every dance accorded to their music. Elxtras were played by Miss T. Arden, Miss M. Mills and Mrs. R. Cockerton.

A dainty supper was provided, the catering being in the capable hands of Mrs. Hoddle (Hawera). The novelty dances resulted: “Monte'Carlo,’’ Miss I. Parrish and partner; “spot” waltz, Miss Lippett and partner. ' MILK SUPPLY. The milk supply has kept up remarks ably well l in this district,, the drought being almost unnoticed. Certainly there was not any rain for a long period, but the pastures were always green and feed was never really scarce, the milk received at the factory was not, at any time, less than the saine time last year.

PERSONAL. Miss Alma Matthews has returned from the Waikato.

Miss Firth has been appointed the sole teacher of the local school in place of Miss McMillan (relieving teacher).
