EMPIRE TRADE.

SCHOOL CHILDREN’S RECIPROCITY SCHEME. AN ENCOURAGING LETTER. A very interesting 'and encouraging letter has been received by Mr L. O. Hooker from Colonel E. H. Pickwood, a retired army officer, who has been touring New Zealand for some months._ Mr Hooker met him recently at Pipiriki, and in: the course of conversation the school children’s Empire_ reciprocal publicity scheme was mentioned. The colonel was keenly, appreciative of the idea and has written a letter in which he speaks of “the interesting and valuable exposition of the scheme for exchange of letters between school children 1 of New Zealand of the Mother Country, which opens' up very great possibilities. One cannot,” he adds, “at once grasp its full intention, which, of course, is unlimited. It is not me nor any individual,” he says, after receiving literature dealing with the scheme, “that the papeT hopes to interest,, but the cause itself is the object of your work. Ido not know if I can help. In Ireland I was for some years on the Diocesan Board of Education, but I have done with Ireland now. But I (have a relative in the Colonial Office in, a; fairly- high •position, and I shall try if I can get him to get in touch with the educational people. The papers are so complete and well edited! that I feel almost ashamed to keep them. However I shall take them to England, and meantime I have much pleasure in •sending you a small contribution towards the scheme.” A cheque of £lO was enclosed, and Mr Hooker has sent a letter cordially acknowledging the ■encouraging and helpful letter, and also the earnest of that encouragement contained in the donation.
