ANOTHER CHALLENGE MATCH
MANAWATU v. MARLBOROUGH HOLDERS TWO FOR 174. [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] PALMERSTON N., March 16. The Hawke Cup match Manawatu v. Marlborough commenced at the sports ground this morning. The wicket was good, but the weather was dull and inclined to be' showery. Ongley, captain of the holders, won the toss and-elected to bat. The opening was not attended with success. With eight on the board Young played forward to Cragg and was completely beaten. Norris filled the vacancy, runs coming steadily, 50 appearing at the end of an hour’s play. After Norris had survived an appeal for caught he went out to a catch in the slips off Cragg. Two for 63. Gallichan and Pacey, by bright batting, advanced the total to 174 at. the luncheon adjournment. Details are: MANAWATU. .First Innings.
