PATEA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Mrs. G. A. Robbie, of Christchurch, accompanied by Miss Luck, of Southsea. England, are at present visitors to Patea as the guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. McCarty. On Tuesday morning Mrs. Robbie and Miss Luck were entertained by the staff of the Patea school at morning tea. The late Mr. Robbie, who made the supreme sacrifice in Flanders, was headmaster oT the school some years ago. The Mayor (Mr. P. S. Finlayson) is attending the municipal conference atNelson. SOH () 01, COMMITTEE. The monthly meeting of the Patea school committee was held on Tuesday evening. Mr. R. 11. Moore piesided. Messrs Scott, Finlay, Marshall and Matthews (headmaster) were also present. The offer of Mr. F. Lund to plough and level the school football .field for £5 was unanimously accepted. The committee is to supply the necessary grass seed. It was resolved to purchase a new lawn mower and to set aside £5 tor payment to the boys who had been appointed to mow the lawns for the year. Air. D. Finlay (secretary) tendered his resignation, as he was departing shortly for Rakaia.
Various members paid high tribute to Air. Finlay’s keen interest in school affairs. Mr. M'oore moved that the committee record its appreciation of Air. Finlay’s services. The motion aas seconded by Air T. Scott and carried by acclamation.
