THREE FIRES AT HOKITIKA

f BY TELEGRArn—PRESS ASSOCIATION.] HOKITIKA, March 12. Three outbreaks of fire occurred during the last twelve hours. At 8.30 o’clock last night Warren and Feeney’s wood planing shed, situated on the riverbank, Gibson Quay, was practically gutted. The only contents were a planing machine and a gas engine. Tavo hours later, a fire broke out in NoAvmans Motors Ltd., a large gaTage in the centre of the town. The fire was confined to an attic over the front portion of the building used as a secondhand store room and for the sleeping quarters of the caretaker. Considerable damage was done to the f ront portion of the structure. All cars in the garage were removed without sustaining damage. The fire brigade made an excellent- save. The cause of the outbreak was unknown, the caretaker being downstairs awaiting the arrival of cars which Avere out Avhen the alarm was given. NcAvman’s insurance was £ISOO on the garage and £SOO on the stock. This morning at seven o’clock another alarm Avas caused by an outbreak in the wash-house at the Convent. DOMINION’S OVERSEAS TRADE. WELLINGTON, March 12. Overseas trade figures for the period of two months ended February, 1928, were as under: Imports totalled' £7,318,258 and exports £15.449,207, as compared Avith £7.303.670 and £lO,220,591 respectively for the corresponding period of 1927. The- imports during February, 1928, amounted to I £3.578.238. and the exports to £7.1842.822. as compared with £3,292,610 and £5,015,451 in February last year.
