TRAINING WORK AT AWAPUNI (by telegraph— press association.) PALMERSTON N., Dec. 21. Dull but fine weather prevailed for track operations at Awapuni this morning, but it was an off day and little of an interesting nature was done. Grand Knight and other members of Mr Williams’s team worked before breakfast, the Auckland Cup candidate bowling along very freely on the plough, the reverse way round. Although sent out to do l three-quarter pace work, live furlongs were covered in 1.10. Staghunter, who looks in great ordei Shot Silk and Wild • Pigeon each fulfilled useful' tasks. Grand Knight, Staghunter and Shot Silk joined the special train for the north at Palmerston North this afternoon. AVild Pigeon will * fulfil the Manawatu Cup engagement and return home direct; and is not intended to compete at Tauherenikau. Standard was the only other early worker, the Absurd gelding being worked on a lead. A big string, the majority being local horses, worked later, but save in a few instances were restricted to pace work on the .plough track," the course proper not being open. Sir Fanciful, Phantasy, and Ridbank did strong pace work over a couple of rounds, Sir Fanciful doing the third alone. Some Lad went two rounds on the plough attractively. Ts’ovar worked well ove.r the same distance. Mister Gamp and Del Sarto were sent over five fences. Both jumped well, though moody. Mister Gamp being particularly so, and lie drew away from bis companion on the run home. Superb King, which was very lame after yesterday’s operations was quite all right this morning and worked well.
