The rule of the road formed the subject of a few remarks by Mr Justice AJpers in the Supreme Court at Wellington, when his Honour pointed out that the best aid the motorist could possess was plain common sense. “It is sometimes said,” remarked His Honour, “that New Zealand must be a wealthy country—because the authorities cover the mads with rough metal and leave it to rubber tyres to rub it in. However that may be, a motorist usually manages to avoid this metal wherever possible. The rule of the road is to use your common sense. We all break the rules sometimes.” Counsel: at your own risk “Not at our own risk,” rejoined His Honour, “if we use our common sense in the matter.” Two thousand books and manuscripts from one of the oldest library collections in New Zealand are shortly to be transferred .from St. John College to the Auckland University College, Many of the volumes have seen a better day, as a. glimpse at the shelves of the Kinder Library, a brick building near the St. John’s College chapel, will .show, but with care and attention they should last for many years to come. In the library of the University College, the books and numerous manuscripts in the collection will be much more accessible to students than they are at present.' Not only so. but the room for housing them will be on a more adequate scale. Notable in the collection are the books on medical science and the old classics.
